Katie Lauer is a freelance features, arts and politics reporter

based in the San Francisco Bay Area. 

She thrives diving into the nooks and crannies of society, writing stories that bring the "who” and "why” to life. Lauer is currently a contributing writer for iPondr, San Jose Inside and Metro Newspapers, as well as Queer Silicon Valley, an archival project for LGBTQ arts, culture and politics. 

 

Before freelancing full-time, she was a staff writer at San José Spotlight covering everything from the COVID-19 pandemic and City Hall happenings, to local arts endeavors and the LGBTQ+ community.

Lauer was anchored in the Land of 10,000 Lakes prior to moving west, writing for the Rochester Post Bulletin, 507 Magazine and the Minnesota Daily. She can often be found dreaming of live concerts, talking to her cats and overusing the em dash. 

Lauer is a 2017 graduate from the Hubbard School of Journalism at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Her work has appeared in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, MPR News, the St. Paul Pioneer Press, U.S. News & World ReportWashington TimesDuluth News Tribune and more.
